2000 ASHRAE Winter Meeting in Dallas, TX
February 7, 2000

Chair Brian Webb called the meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.

Liaison: George Briley

Indicated if we have research projects, to get them in early and make sure they are well written.

Representative from Refrigeration Committee reported that Refrigeration Committee will become a Standing Committee beginning July 1, 2000 - 00/01 Society Year. Brief discussion followed.

Motion to accept minutes from 6/99 Seattle, WA meeting.

Brian Becker - Moved , Gordon Follette - Seconded, Voting: 8-0-0 CV

Chair Webb reported on a meeting held Sunday, February 6, 2000 with TC10.5 was a very good meeting. Discussions were held on Research, Handbook, and Standards.

Chair Webb to research which Chapters still need reviewers and pass information on to George Briley.

Sub-Committee Report: Gordon Follette on 1123 and 1138

Drs. Becker and Fricke reported: 1123: Status algorithms have been developed for freeze temperatures for food refrigeration on various foods, approximately 1,000 food items; time versus temp curves were developed. Becker and Fricke further discussed accomplishments to date. Becker and Fricke reported they are ready to input information into computer to calculate heat transfer coefficient. Time frame to complete project: September, '00. Preliminary report available for review. 1138: Cooling times of fruits and vegetables using hydro-cooling. Preliminary report available. Chair Webb volunteered to be PMS Chair with Gordon Follette and Ed Fuhrmann on sub-committee. This committee will monitor progress of this project. Time frame for completion: February 1, 2001.

Need to make a list of RCARS project and submit this summer. There were 5 or 6 projects outlined which could be used for this RCARS, from which 3 are to be selected in order of priority.

Gordon Follette reported that a report form a PI from the University of Maryland in 1992 was never followed up on; it was regarding temp and time of freezing of turkey does not have any effect on end product.

Handbook: Evans Lizardos

Reviewed progress report of previously forwarded schedule. Suggested replies (comments) begin returning to Evans by May 1, 2000. (Evans to send out letter to contact persons to request comments be returned to Evans Lizardos by May 1, 2000)

Program: Ed Fuhrmann

Reported on meeting held on Sunday, February 6, 2000. Requested seminar in Atlanta. Topic: Design Conditions for Food Freezing and Review of Freezing Processes and Equipment.

Two forums planned for Minneapolis:

What are the benefits to air side controls for refrigerated storage; with TC10.5 and 10.9 collaborating. Should ASHRAE become more involved in environmental controls in process facilities?

Standards: None

Journal: Rex Noble

Need articles for application oriented manuscripts for ASHRAE Journal; 8 to 10 double-spaced pages with maximum of 4 illustrations (figures, tables or photographs). Rex requested to let him know those articles we need to get in the Journal. Chair Webb to send copy to Rex.

Old Business: None

New Business: HACCP

Very serious situation/condition in meat process facilities. Moisture is a major problem and it is the major cause of contamination in facilities.
