Minutes for Technical Committee 10.9

2001 ASHRAE Winter Meeting in Atlanta, GA
January 29, 2001

Chair Brian Webb called the meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.

Introduction of Members and Guests

Minutes of Summer Meeting in Minneapolis, MN was accepted

Section 10 Head - Clark Bullard

Introduced himself and showed willingness to assist anytime we needed him.

Section 10 Liaison Research - George Briley

Reported that $2.9 million has been identified as being available for year 2002. As a result of this substantial reduction in funds available, RAC will be making a more critical and comprehensive analysis of all RTARS and work statements in future. Because of this some projects will be rescheduled back by approximately six months to resolve the present shortfall of funds.

Other comments that arose from those attending were:

Society was relocating funds from research to embrace other society short falls. Assumed this was a rumor only. Society was intending to be more critical of research proposals that added no immediate value to its membership. Society was intending to rate research proposals on the bases partly of their immediate and readable result value to grass roots engineering requirements.

Research Sub-Committee - Gordon Follette

1123 RP. Final report draft received Nov 13, 2000 Sub-Committee was unanimous in accepting final result. Motion to approve made by Follette. Results: For: 6, Against: 0, Abstain: 1

1229 URP. Sub-Committee was formed to review this. It was the subcommittee’s recommendation that in view of the immediate conflict that could occur with finalization of 1123 RP and an RTAR presently being considered from the committee on Blast Freezing equipment and methods, this URP should be temporarily shelved. The proposer, who was present, was advised at that time.

1138 RP. Final report due February 2001.

Handbook - Brian Webb reported for Evans Lizardos

A sub-committee meeting was held Sunday, January 28, 2001, chaired by Lizardos. Twelve of the Chapters have been completed and approved: Chapters 8, 9,11, 15, 18, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25, 26, and 27. Six chapters have yet to be completed: with the deadline May 2001. Chapters 14, 16, 17, 21, 23, and 28.

Program - Ed Fuhrmann

Seminar 5 at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, January 28 was a success with over 90 in attendance. Planning on a further seminar in Cincinnati. Long range to attempt to include “Back to Basics: Application” Seminar each summer and winter meeting.

Standards - Gideon Zeidler

It was noted that SPC165P had been attached to our Committees standards responsibilities. No one present seemed to be aware of what this standard involved and Chairman Webb is to research this and report at the Cincinnati meeting.
