Written copies of the minutes of the TC 10.7 Meeting at the 1999 ASHRAE Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA were distributed for review prior to the 2000 Winter meeting. No changes to the minutes were proposed. The minutes were approved as written.
- Committee Reports:
- Program Committee (H. Henderson)
Hugh Henderson reported on the program activities. There was one program activity sponsored by TC 10.7 at the 2000 ASHRAE Winter Meeting in Dallas. "International Developments and Experiences with Supermarket Refrigeration System Designs for Reduced TEWI", a seminar moderated by Van Baxter was conducted prior to the meeting. Mr. Baxter reported that 55-60 people attended the seminar and comments were generally favorable. A discussion of future program activities of TC 10.7 followed.
2000 ASHRAE Annual Meeting in Minneapolis
Mr. Henderson reported that several program slots were still available for the 2000 Annual Meeting and that TC 10.7 has a second chance to submit programs to fill these. Priority #1 would be a seminar regarding air curtains in display cases which was previously proposed for the Dallas meeting and was turned down. A new moderator would be needed for this seminar as the current moderator was also one of the speakers. Priority #2 would be a seminar on energy benchmarking procedures and parameters for supermarket systems proposed by Mr. Khattar.
2001 ASHRAE Winter Meeting in Atlanta
Cynthia Gage will continue to organize a symposium entitled "Issues with Secondary Coolant Systems" which was originally planned for the Minneapolis meeting but was postponed to accommodate one of the speakers. Speakers are now Eckhard Groll, Pega Hrnjak and Tony Papagna of K-Mart. One additional speaker was desired, from Europe if possible. A seminar was proposed on the perspective of end-users who have installed secondary coolant systems. John Vana volunteered to chair this seminar and find possible speakers.
- Research Committee (M. Khattar)
Mukesh Khattar reported on research activities. It was noted that the previous research committee meeting on Sunday had very poor attendance. So far the work statement for the first priority research project only has been submitted. The work statements for the second, third, fourth and fifth priority projects have not yet been completed. A new sixth priority project was proposed dealing with capacity modulation of single compressor systems. The project RTAR must be submitted by August 4, 2000 for all projects.
- Handbook Committee (M. Palladino)
Mike Palladino reported on handbook activities. Current project involves revision of Chapter 47 to include information on secondary coolant systems. A questionnaire will be sent out in February and will be requesting comments and assistance with these revisions. Current plan is to have a rough draft available by the 2000 Annual Meeting and a final draft by the 2001 Winter Meeting. John Vana volunteered to assist with gathering additional secondary coolant information.
- Standards Committee (B. Schaeffer)
Buzz Schaeffer reported on standards activities. Standard 72-1998 has been printed and is now available for purchase. Responses regarding last draft of Standard 117 revision have been reviewed and minor changes will be made. No additional reviews will be required.
Michael Martin read a letter from the California Energy Commission regarding a proposal to revise standard 32.1 to reflect a new technology involving the turning off of vending equipment during weekend hours in office buildings which are not occupied in order to save energy. The letter included a recommendation that Mr. Martin chair the committee revising this standard. Mr. Martin then made a motion to form a new project committee to revise Standard 32.1 and 32.2 including assessing whether these two standards should be combined into one standard or left as separate standards. The motion was seconded by Lowell Hettinger. The motion passed with a simple majority (5 in favor, 1 opposed, 3 abstained). Chairman Groll will recommend that Mr. Martin be the chair of this new committee.
- New Business and Additions to Agenda
Chairman Groll announced that the United States National Committee of the International Institute of Refrigeration is currently having a membership drive and is looking for new members to assist with the congress coming up in Washington, D.C., in 2003.
The Clima 2000 Conference was announced and brochures distributed.
The Dublin 2000 Conference, which is co-sponsored by ASHRAE was announced and brochures distributed.
- Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
These minutes are submitted by David Hinde, April 12, 2000.
