- Update on PMS for 1214-TRP
The PI submitted a final draft of the report for approval. The PI was asked to leave the room and discussion ensued that cannot be reported here. The TC decided not to vote on the final draft, but to provide potential reviewers one final chance to review the document. MOTION - All technical committee members and other invited reviewers will have until February 23rd to provide comments to Dr. Bryan Becker on the current draft. Dr. Becker will then review the comments, make appropriate changes and return the document to the Technical Committee and the 1214-TRP PMS by March 14th. - Update on RTAR/Work Statements
- Comparison of Refrigerated Warehouse Dock Construction Techniques. Work statement was submitted, but RAC rejected it. Rewrite will be conducted by Brian Webb, Gordon Follette and Daniel Dettmers.
- Long Time Performance Characteristics of Insulated Panels. Again, the RTAR was accepted but not prioritized. It was the decision of the committee to no longer pursue this topic in light of the phaseout of R141b and the introduction of several new blowing agents. Any analysis would be only useful to existing facilities or for historical records.
- Review/Revision of Long Range Research Plan/RTAR's
The committee decided to spend time reflecting on the topics currently on the list, update and add new topics. More time will be spent in Nashville to finalize this list to submit as the TC's long range research plan in August. The current list of ideas, listed in no particular order, includes
- Use of ultraviolet light to reduce bioeffluents from molds to improve the storage lifetime of warehouse products.
- Combine three former topics to address controlling humidity levels in the warehouse. The three former items on the LRRP are:
Guidelines for Selection of Evaporators for High Humidity Applications for Refrigerated Storage Facilities.
A Study to Determine the Costs and benefits of Electrically Heated Fast Acting Doors vs. Vestibules.
Simulations of Cold Storage Facility Evaporator Placement for Optimum Operations.
- Energy Simulation Model for Refrigerated Warehouses.
ASHRAE Program Committee did not schedule forum.
The forum will be resubmitted for Nashville.
- HANDBOOK - BILL HUMM
Nothing to report.
- PROGRAM - ED FUHRMANN
- The forum submitted for Anaheim was cut, but will be resubmitted for Nashville. The forum address the question of whether ASHRAE should develop simulation tool to model refrigerated warehouses. It was co-sponsored by TC's 10.8 and 4.7, who both support its resubmission.
- Report on Seminar 10: Basic Refrigerated Warehouse Design
Ajay reported that the seminar was well attended, 75 to 80 people at all times, and the scores were quite high. All speaker average scores were above 4 on a 5 point scale. One attendee commented that the title "Basic Design…" was misleading because he believed it would be all encompassing. Dan Dettmers suggested that the title should be changed to "Refrigerated Warehouses 101" or "Back to Basics…" Just remove the word design and make sure it is understood that it will be basic information. It was agreed that moving the annual seminar to the winter meeting boosted attendance and this should be repeated for Orlando.
- Program for the Winter Meeting in Anaheim
No new program ideas were submitted, beyond the forum that would be resubmitted. Daniel Dettmers did report that he will be presenting the history of refrigerated warehouses as part of a Refrigeration Committee program titled "100 years of Refrigeration Applications". TC 10.5 would be made a cosponsor. Gordon Follette and Ed Furhmann agreed to help with the content.
