1998 ASHRAE Winter Meeting in San Francisco, CA
January 26, 1998

  1. Approved minutes of past meeting, 6/30/97
  2. Notes:
    • President-elect: Wants a Refrigeration Newsletter with emphasis on putting "R" back into ASHRAE
    • Consider a refrigeration section website
    • Renew emphasis on adding committee members
  3. Bryan Webb, Program Chairman, suggest possible program subjects:
    • Air Distribution
    • Use of guides in aisles
    • Air return and distribution
    • Noise
      Others discussed IAQ in refrigerated rooms
  4. Chairman Humm requests adding TC 10.5 as a co-sponsor and participant in 953 RP/A "Floor Heating" with TC 10.8. Award is to University of Colorado, Moncel Krasti for $48,625. Start date: 9/97
  5. Chairman Humm expressed that the refrigeration section needs to coordinate and communicate with the food industry - "What is refrigeration used for - except food."
  6. TC 10.5 was sent the “Unsolicited Research Proposal 1068-URP” to measure the freezing times of warm simulated meat products in pallet stacks to evaluate and determine efficiencies of:
    • Wood
    • Plastic
    • Aluminum freezer spacers
      This was rejected by committee vote 4/0/0 and also forwarded to TC 10.9 to determine their interest. Hand written note given to Mr. Seaton on 1/19/98 to expedite.
  7. Research – word statement is to be prepared and request cooperation with TC 3.5 subject, energy savings and increased production capacity from applying desiccant dehumidification systems in frozen food facilities.
  8. New member candidates:
    • Brian Simkins – Munters
    • Al Rockafellow – Alumina Shield
  9. Chairman Humm recommended a project to prepare and publish “Best Practices” developed with various insulated panel manufacturers, etc. This could become a subject for the website.
