Seminar 43 Energy Conservation In Arenas
Sponsors: TC 10.02 Automatic Icemaking Plants and Skating Rinks;
Refrigeration Standing Committee
Chair: Ronald H. Strong, P.E., Member, R. H. Strong & Associates
Inc., Delta, British Columbia, Canada
With the increased popularity of skating rinks around the world as well
as rising energy costs, there is a need to identify areas of energy consumption
and outline methods of saving energy. This presentation deals with energy
consumption and potential savings in the areas of waste heat recovery from
the refrigeration system, refrigerant selection, pumping methods, impact
of make-up air requirements to meet ASHRAE Standard 62 and the use of low
emissivity materials.

Seminar 04 Refrigeration: Back to the Basics
Sponsor: Refrigeration Committee
Chair: Joseph W. Pillis, P.E., Member, York Refrigeration/Frick,
Waynesboro, PA
Safety related codes and requirements have evolved over the years with
an increased awareness towards safety related practices dealing with the
design, installation and operation of refrigeration systems. This seminar
provides an overview of the major regulatory policies affecting refrigeration
system design, installation and operation and highlights issues that should
be taken into consideration early in the design phase to avoid costly complications
that could occur later.
